Alumna channels Ashesi experiences, as Marketing Manager for Kempinski Hotel in Ghana

When Ruweida Salifu ’14 became Entertainment Chairperson on the Student Council, Ashesi had spent barely over a year at our new campus in Berekuso. With the campus still evolving recreational facilities for students, she shared responsibility for developing creative student life and engagement activities. Over that period, she would become recognised as one of Ashesi’s most storied student council executives. From organising one of the most memorable student awards events to pop-up concerts, Ruweida led a team of peers to strengthen a culture of student-driven campus activity.

Bringing the World to Ghana, Taking Ghana to the World

Thanks to an increasing network of partners, students at Ashesi get to experience learning around the world, while the university also welcomes many others to experience living and learning in Ghana. Last year, about twelve Ashesi students participated in different programs with Swarthmore University, University of Connecticut, Malardalen University, IE Busines School, among others.

Ashesi team launches student research journal for Science, Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Design

A team of students supported by faculty at Ashesi has launched a new Science, Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Design (SEED) Research Journal. SEED will be published twice a year and aims to become a leader for student research and articles that explore innovation and connections within its four central study areas. The journal is the first of its kind and brings added momentum to Ashesi’s emerging research culture.

How scholarships at Ashesi unlocked an unlikely door for Maxwell Aladago '18

Maxwell Aladago arrived at Ashesi University on a full scholarship with a very limited idea of how computers worked. Four years later, he was developing artificial intelligence algorithms for various applications, including the detection of malaria parasites in a blood smear. And now, as a Ph.D. candidate at Dartmouth College, he is hoping to help deepen artificial intelligence research for solving some of Africa’s toughest challenges. Here’s his story.
